The Gunners have been in imperious form all season and looked to have staged another comeback win in the North East after Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard cancelled out Dan Ballard’s opener. In the first-half Sunderland frustrated Arsenal, who struggled to break down their stubborn defence and when they did find a way through, chances were not taken. Declan Rice’s long-range free-kick was saved by Robin Roefs before Eberechi Eze and William Saliba fired over from promising positions.
