Following media reports suggesting the chief justice served show-cause notices on three High Court judges, the Supreme Court has clarified that no such notices were issued. In a media statement on Tuesday, the Supreme Court said the chief justice had only requested “case-related information” from the judges as part of routine administrative procedure. Earlier in the day, several news outlets reported that the chief Justice had issued show-cause notices to three High Court judges over granting a large number of bail orders. The judges named in those reports were Justice Abu Taher Saifur Rahman, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, and Justice Zakir Hossain. The Supreme Court directed the media to verify the authenticity of information before publishing court-related news in order to preserve the reputation of the judiciary and avoid misleading the public.
