Survivors of mother and baby homes cannot be abandoned again

A mother hugs her child after leaving flowers at a shrine which was formerly part of the Bon Secours Mother and Baby home in Tuam, Co Galway. Photo: Charles McQuillan/Getty ImagesThe latest developments relating to mother and baby homes is deeply disappointing. In fact, the Mother and Baby Homes Commission of Investigation has previously turned down two invitations to address the committee of TDs and Senators. Thanks to the heroism of the women who did not break, but instead courageously told their stories, mother and baby homes have remained in the public discussion. Instead of hearing the survivors’ voices that have been so long silenced, they again struggle to be heard.
