TRAVELLER'S TALE: Exotic Sandakan

Last July, I travelled to Kinabatangan district in Sandakan, which is well connected by Malaysia Airlines from Kuala Lumpur and Silk Air from Singapore’s Changi Airport. Located in the north-eastern coast of Borneo in the administrative centre of Sandakan Division, it was the former capital of British North Borneo. Other tourist attractions are Sandakan Heritage Museum, Sandakan Cultural Festival, Sandakan War Memorial, Turtle Islands National Park and the Gomantong Caves. At the homestay, we met officers from Tourism Malaysia Sabah and the National Department For Culture And Arts (Sabah) and watched an Orang Sungai cultural performance. Other notable (3-4 star) hotels include Hotel Nak, Hotel Ramai, Hotel Sandakan, Swiss Inn Waterfront, Sabah Hotel, Sanbay Hotel and Ibis Styles Sandakan Waterfront.
