TTC officers continued using the same Toronto Police Service contact cards as the force used to conduct “carding,” even after the police scrapped the forms over concerns about public accountability, an ongoing Star investigation has found. The TTC's enforcement unit has collected the personal information of thousands of transit riders on "field information" cards. Until about four years ago, TTC officers used official Toronto Police Service (TPS) “field information” cards known as “208” forms to collect riders’ details, which can include their name, address, driver’s licence number and race. Transit users whose information TTC officers collect are left with no record of the interaction or what personal details have been recorded. TTC officers filled out more than 40,000 of the cards over that period, approximately 33,000 of which stated the subject’s race.
