Tanzania, Several African Countries Beat Kenya in Securing Key Fuel Deal

Tanzania has emerged among several African countries that beat Kenya in securing petroleum imports from Nigeria’s Dangote mega-refinery, which has started exporting fuel to help African nations cope with rising costs and shortages amid the Middle East conflict. It further revealed that it had received unprecedented demand from several African countries, with some requests coming from beyond the content. Kenya and South Africa reportedly approached Dangote in mid-March seeking to secure fuel supplies to cushion against potential shortages. However, Tanzania and several West African nations moved in quickly and utilised the opportunity to finalise the deals before Kenya could lock in shipments. This leaves limited fuel available for export, forcing countries to compete for remaining allocations.
