As it prepares its submission to the judges, Taunton Town Council has been running a survey asking people what makes the town unique, what they value most, and future cultural ideas they would like to see. A council spokesperson said: "Taunton Town Council wants to pursue this because culture is not an add-on here. "It underpins our arts and culture strategy and plays a direct role in how we grow the town centre, support independent businesses and strengthen community life. "A Town of Culture bid would give us a clear framework to accelerate work we are already committed to, attract external funding, and leave a legacy that lasts beyond a single year." "Town of Culture would help us grow our economy, build confidence in the town and show that Taunton is a place with ambition, not just potential."
