Under the project, which kicked off in April 2013, every GP is being given 100 Mbps Internet connectivity using optical fibre cable. The DoT has requested telecom service providers and Internet service providers to leverage the NOFN network to provide the services. As on date, 346 high-speed broadband connections have been provided in rural areas by BSNL. BSNL has drawn up plans to provide 20,000 fibre-to-the-home connections in these rural areas by using NOFN. In Mysuru district, 206 GPs (out of 268) are already integrated to Karnataka State Wide Area Network using NOFN.
