Of course, the politicians are changing their positions because they’re following voters —or at least think they are. Whether or not Republican voters have changed as much as it sounds is a thornier question than it may seem. But what’s even clearer is that what Republican voters want to hear has changed a lot. So why not make the best of a bad situation and get right with Republican voters? Abandon enough of the rules for long enough and you forget that they’re rules at all.
