Manchester tumbled to 51, eight places down an annual international ranking of the world’s most desirable cities, while London failed to improve its mid-table position at 53. The bomb at Manchester Arena in May was the chief reason for its poorer showing while London, which had experienced terrorist attacks before those at Westminster and London Bridge, was held back by high crime rates and congestion. Australia and Canada dominated the top of the ranking, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit, with three cities from each country in the top ten.
