Mr Uttama and the PPRP members at the meeting were believed to have talked about defecting to a new party called Sang Thai (Building Thai). Mr Chaturon, a former member of the opposition Pheu Thai Party, has largely kept his activities to social media after the Thai Raksa Chart Party (TRC) was disbanded early last year. The former deputy prime minister quit the Pheu Thai Party to help launch the TRC to contest the March 2019 general election. Among the well-known "October people" are Surapong Suebwonglee, Prommin Lertsuriyadej and Phumtham Wechayachai, all of whom belong to a think tank behind the defunct Thai Rak Thai and the People's Power parties, which are considered the predecessors of Pheu Thai. Pheu Thai even failed to form a coalition government despite winning the largest number of constituency seats.
