With hundreds dead, investigators are examining whether the crashes were caused by the same automated system. It was the first fatal accident involving a 737 Max. • On March 10, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, involving the same Max jet model, also crashed minutes after takeoff, killing all 157 people on board. Boeing developed the automated system to help 737s fly farther, but pilots did not necessarily know it existed.
