After the arrival of their newborn, new fathers may experience the challenging and overwhelming transition of the postpartum period. According to Dr. Pratima Thamke, a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Motherhood Hospital in Kharghar, this adjustment period can lead to Paternal Postpartum Depression (PPD). PPD, commonly referred to as “Sad Dads,” can significantly impact a father’s mental and physical well-being. According to Dr. Thamke, fathers under the age of 25 are at higher risk of postnatal depression, and those with a history of depression or financial stress may also experience PPD. In summary, the postpartum period requires significant adjustments from fathers, and lack of awareness and support often leads to paternal postpartum depression.
