The Independent is reportedly in talks to take control of BuzzFeed and HuffPost in a venture that would see the newspaper assume full control of editorial and commercial operations. Once considered the vanguards of internet news, Buzzfeed and HuffPost revolutionised digital journalism with their innovative blend of viral content, investigative reporting and socially-driven storytelling. Newsrooms dependent on tech platforms for traffic, including Forbes and The Messenger, have recently been hit. Buzzfeed, which acquired HuffPost in 2020, closed down its newsroom last year. The situation has compelled media groups to seek new ways to bolster their commercial operations.
