When you start reading about health and medical matters, it doesn’t take much to wake your inner hypochondriac. So it proved for Bill Bryson when he was researching his latest book, The Body: A Guide for Occupants. “I noticed that if I was reading about the symptoms of any illness, I’d got ’em,” he says. “I mean, I’d got ’em all. But then I thought, calm down.” Just because he was reading about an illness didn’t mean he had it.
