Their priority was the war in Yemen and the larger regional battle with Iran for dominance of the region. In some ways, Saudi Arabia and the UAE’s risky strategy has already backfired. Mr. Trump’s move has also strengthened Brotherhood offshoots like Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip. A Saudi military spokesman said the kingdom had intercepted 83 ballistic missiles since the Yemen war started almost three years ago.
