A spokesperson for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office didn’t respond to a request for comment Thursday from the Associated Press. Floyd, a black man, died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee against Floyd's neck for nearly eight minutes. The Portland City Commission made June 19 a paid city holiday earlier this week to honor Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.
