Nitin Nabin, 45, formally took charge as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) new national president on Tuesday (January 20, 2026) in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who declared that, in party matters, Mr. Nabin would be his “boss”. Mr. Modi’s remarks sought to assert the separation of the BJP organisation headed by the new party president and the government headed by the Prime Minister himself. “I, too, as a party worker, was giving an account of my work to the new president. ‘Presidents change, not ideals’“In the BJP, presidents change, but ideals do not change. We must ensure that those who deny the existence of Ram Setu and oppose the Karthigai Deepam festival have no place in Indian politics,” Mr. Nabin added.
