The Scottish companies have also been linked to a corruption scandal involving the alleged bribery of a member of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe. The companies are among thousands of Scottish limited partnerships set up in the past decade. The restriction prohibited private and limited companies from setting themselves up without a named individual as a director. Over 50% of the money transacted through the Laundromat flowed through shell companies registered in London, Birmingham and Scotland.
