It has been the best part of four decades since the Prince of Wales publicly confessed to talking to his plants. The subject of his conversations remained confidential, though “Have you come far?” is said to work for humans. But though he was much mocked at the time, the prince’s green advocacy now seems both clear-eyed and bang up to date. At the One Planet Summit in Paris yesterday he tried to drum up support from big business for his latest initiative, the Terra Carta, designed to channel investment into protecting the health of the planet. This Earth Charter sets out sustainable goals in zero-waste storage, in forestry, in creating jobs in regenerative farming, restoring biodiversity and, of course, reducing carbon emissions.
