Even as another 1.9 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, the May jobs report was much better than expected — the economy actually added 2.5 million jobs last month. And surprisingly, the unemployment rate dropped to 13.3 percent, down from 14.7 percent in April, the worst since World War II.
