The High Pay Centre, the lobby group, estimated that chief executives of Britain’s blue-chip companies would have to work less than 34 hours this year to earn more than the £31,461 median annual earnings of a full-time worker. Assuming that they began work at 8am on Monday and worked 12-hour days, they would have exceeded this figure shortly before 5.30pm today. The analysis is based on the median earnings of a FTSE 100 chief executive of just over £3.6 million, based on pay disclosures for 2019, the last year for which full data is available.
