While this may sound appealing, what boards are failing to disclose to parents is that this convenience comes at a cost: a compromised learning experience for their children. First, it is worth mentioning that there can be good reasons to have school boards offer a virtual learning option. While there is a strong desire for a return to “normal,” for some children their normal school experience was not a pleasant one. That being said, so-called hybrid learning is not the answer. Adopting a hybrid model will only exacerbate these disparities, with the most disadvantaged students likely to fall even further behind.
