Presiding over them was Marie Kondo, a Japanese cleaning guru whose books were becoming international bestsellers. Andersen bought the minimalist books and listened to the podcasts. Over the following two years, minimalism kept popping up around me – in new hotel designs, fashion brands and self-help books. KonMari might be vaguely anti-capitalist, but then there is the fact that you have to buy a suite of Kondo books to practise it. The most famous proponent of minimalism – or at least minimalism as a lifehack – was probably Steve Jobs.
