The Boeing 747 was the first jumbo jet, making air travel affordable to the masses. Air travel was still considered a luxury when Boeing made its huge bet on a jet like no other. The Pan Am Boeing 747 at Heathrow Airport, London after its maiden commercial trans Atlantic flight from New York on Jan 22, 1970. It made its debut when people were just waking up to the possibilities that air travel offered. With its four engines, the 747 represented a significant leap forward for air travel.
