Throughout its history, the condition of the Central Office has been one important measure of Germany’s evolving relationship to its Nazi past. Others view that as an optimistic estimate, predicting that the end of the Central Office is much nearer. Earlier this year, an AfD politician called for Germany to stop atoning for its Nazi crimes. It is the world’s most comprehensive repository of Nazi crimes and postwar attempts to bring the regime to justice.
