Exposure to toxic mould can have a decades–long impact on the lungs, concerning new research has revealed. A team based at the University of Bristol found that childhood exposure to mould can decrease lung function into adolescence. Kitchen appliances like dishwashers, fridges and microwaves are 'prime mould zones' due to constant moisture and water exposure. 'Mould exposure is a particular problem to those with pre–existing lung disease such as asthma and COPD often leading to flare ups of respiratory symptoms including asthma attacks.' In December 2020, two–year–old Awaab Ishak died after prolonged exposure to mould in his Rochdale home.
