The state of the race ahead of the first US Presidential Debate

At 11am tomorrow (Sydney time), US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will step on the stage of CNN’s studio in Atlanta, for the first of two presidential debates. Unlike in Australia, the United States election debates are hugely consequential. Biden won 87 per cent of Black voters in 2020; current polling shows his support hovering around 70 per cent. It’s a tricky game — one that will play out in dramatic fashion in what promises to be a combative and consequential presidential debate. Viewers in Australia can tune in to Friday’s debate from 10:55am on Channel 7 or Channel 9.
