Contrary to common assumption, it is not yet fully accepted that Covid is a winter disease. Not a single major scientific body has been willing to label Covid as a winter virus. And, last summer, Covid cases dropped below 600 a day, with deaths falling to three on a single day, compared with 61,000 daily cases in mid-January and 1,300 deaths. Paul Hunter, professor of medicine at the University of East Anglia, adds that Covid as a winter virus is 'common sense'. Other experts have pointed out that worldwide, between January and February, Covid cases fell by nearly 50 per cent.
