Forbes evaluated the cities on categories of rent affordability, availability and amenities, and lifestyle and safety across 21 metrics. Rent prices climbed $250 in the city, compared to a drop of $22 in nearby New York City, Forbes said. Long Beach, California, was the second worst city for renters, with New York City rounding out the bottom three. The top five large cities for rent included Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska; Raleigh, North Carolina; Austin, Texas; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lincoln had a median rent of $1,225, a low unemployment rate, and a high number of units per 100,000 residents.
