Consumer demand is overwhelming new-vehicle dealers’ razor-thin inventories, which are largely attributed to ongoing microchip shortages and other pandemic-related causes. Cox Automotive says the average national days’ supply is currently at a modest 25 days, which represents around a 75 percent quicker turnover than before the pandemic landed a debilitating blow to the new-vehicle supply and manufacture chain. “The new-vehicle market is starting to show signs of stabilization around inventory levels,” said Cox Automotive Senior Economist Charlie Chesbrough.
