Prior to her time in financial services, Willens was an early childhood educator, a field dominated by women. She spent six years teaching in various elementary schools in the New York City school system during the 1970s. That’s when she joined PaineWebber (which later merged with UBS) where she built her $900 billion business over nearly 30 years. But the veteran advisor knows what it takes to get through economic and market slumps no matter the circumstance. Before the market sell-off in the spring, Willens felt the market was expensive and was treading carefully on what she feared was the last leg of the bull market.
