As the holiday shopping season wraps up in the U.S., consumers are rushing to buy gifts for their loved ones. This holiday season, it is not Greek warriors that shoppers should fear, but China-based electronics giants bearing flat screen televisions, smart phones, smart home appliances and digital assistants. Speaking before the conservative Heritage Foundation on Monday, Acting Secretary Wolf said DHS was specifically looking into smart television sets manufactured by TCL, a Chinese electronics giant. The answer was “yes.”Especially with the meshing of home and workplace that COVID 19 has necessitated, vulnerable consumer products may well be sitting in the background during sensitive corporate or government conversations. Some have called a federal software security law that would set minimal standards and best practices for software security nationally.
