Not sure if it’s a real event or just trendy reporting (and the commentary mostly comes from gun store owners, who have a vested interest in boosting sales), but either way it’s a trend that needs to come to an end: www.washingtonpost.com/…The article in today’s Washington Post describes how gun store owners in Maine were swamped with people purchasing weapons for self-protection as the mass shooter was presumed to be still on the loose. As one of the last interviewees indicates, however, it’s not just shotguns or hunting rifles people are buying, but AR-15s. Could someone have asked if it was really necessary for a national media outlet to produce and report this story? All it does (it seems to me) is make panic purchasing—with all the attendant dangers of bringing guns into homes—more likely everywhere, not just in Maine.
