Threads, a new text-based app developed by Meta, has officially launched, aiming to compete with popular social media platform Twitter. Despite some initial technical issues, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that 30 million users had already signed up by Thursday morning on Threads. However, she indirectly addressed Threads’ launch in a tweet, stating that “the Twitter community can never be duplicated.”The similarities between Threads and Twitter indicate that Meta is directly challenging the popular social media platform. The app’s data privacy disclosure on the App Store states that Threads may gather personal information such as health, financial details, contacts, browsing and search history, location data, purchases, and sensitive information. Currently, Threads is not available in the European Union due to the region’s strict data privacy regulations.
