Three brothers smash Atlantic rowing record

Lachlan, Jamie and Ewan Maclean celebrate in Antigua after becoming the fastest and youngest trio to row the Atlantic and the first brothers to row any ocean PAThree brothers have set a world record by rowing the Atlantic in 35 days, nine days and nine minutes, beating the previous best by almost a week. The Macleans, from Edinburgh, set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on December 12 and completed their 3,000-mile row to Antigua in the Caribbean on Thursday. Ewan, 27, Jamie, 26, and Lachlan, 21, eased past the previous record of 41 days for three rowers. They overcame sleep deprivation, blisters, exhaustion and storms, racking up more than 1.5 million strokes and each consuming up to 12,000 calories a day. The brothers had to row the last 20 days without music because their iPhone cables were damaged by sun and seawater.
