Three-metre python that slithered onto Townsville, Queensland bonnet clung to car for 50km

An Australian couple who used their windscreen wipers to fend off a huge carpet python have revealed the snake travelled with them for 50km - and survived the ordeal. The three-metre long snake slithered onto the bonnet of Melissa Hudson and her partner Rodney Griggs' car as they drove along the Bruce Highway between Giru and Alligator Creek in northern Queensland. Mr Griggs moved the python from the windscreen by swiping it with his window wipers but the serpent clung onto the car for nearly the entire return trip before a traffic worker set it free. The couple pulled over at a set of roadworks on their way back to Giru, where a worker in hi-vis pulled the snake off their bonnet and released it into the bush. Ms Hudson said the snake likely hitched a ride after crawling into their car from their stables.
