Thunderstorms and weather warnings follow windy nightMetServiceA band of turbulent weather bearing severe thunderstorm warnings has rolled past Auckland on its way down country. By Thursday morning, the leading front had reached the central, western area of New Zealand and MetService had issued a severe thunderstorm watch. SUPPLIEDMetService warned of a risk of severe thunderstorms on the western side of the country from Cape Reinga to Westland, including Auckland but excluding Wellington thoughout the day. Squally thunderstorms had made their presence felt in Auckland on Thursday morning, after a night when winds gusted to 120kmh over the lower North Island. Hamilton, New Plymouth and Westport were next on the hit list for the band, bringing with it heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms.
