A string of thunderstorms rolling across southeastern lower Michigan could roll through the region Monday afternoon, brining the possibility of strong winds and "pea to marble-sized hail," according to Environment Canada. The weather authority issued a special weather statement around 12:30 p.m. forecasting winds that could reach 80 km/h, frequent lightning and "heavy downpours" that could reduce visibility to one kilometre. "The air mass remains very unstable, we're watching new thunderstorms firing up right now in Illinois and Indiana," explained meteorologist Geoff Coulson. The stretch of storms is expected to move from Windsor-Essex up to Kitchener-Waterloo, but will weaker before it hits the GTA, he added. "This is very much a developing situation ... we may, in fact, see more in the way of special weather statements."
