TikTok’s lawyers made their case to a federal judge Sunday for postponing the Trump administration’s proposed ban on downloads of the popular video-sharing app, set to take effect around midnight. The ban would freeze TikTok’s user base and stop existing users from downloading upgrades that keep the app fresh. TikTok and its owner, Chinese tech firm ByteDance Ltd., have sued the Trump administration to stop the ban, arguing it violates constitutional free-speech protections. TikTok officials said the app has roughly 50 million daily active users in the U.S. The U.S. Commerce Department plans a full ban for Nov. 12 if an American deal for TikTok isn’t completed by then.
