The Australian Government is facing calls to ban TikTok amid concerns the social media platform poses a national security threat and users' data may be being shared with China. Liberal MP and chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee Andrew Hastie in February claimed the app was a national security threat. TikTok is a Chinese social media app where users can live stream, create short videos and music videos and Gifs with a host of functions. TikTok is the international version of Chinese app Douyin where users create and upload short videos and Gifs with a host of functions. A spokeswoman for TikTok Australia said there is constant work being done to ensure information on the app is safe.
