A certain amount of discussion and debate is vital for a progressive and vibrant democracy but to turn such exchanges into vile arguments using race, religion and the origin of someone is certainly despicable and abhorrent. Once you throw in race and religion into every political discussion and government decision, the politicking becomes endless. The appointment of Latheefa Koya last week as the head of the all-important Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) saw some disparaging memes claiming Malays have lost power in the country. When are these racial champions and religious bigots going to realise that we have a serious problem on our hands compared to issues that we argue and fight about daily in our Facebook and WhatsApp groups? Everyone knows that Barisan Nasional lost power mainly because of massive corruption, abuse of power and arrogance.
