One of the things I’ve learned about being Black is that I’m not welcome. It is rarely a surprise — though it is always disappointing and downright infuriating — when someone goes out of their way to make me feel lesser. I’ve been thinking about how goodwill becomes eroded for Black people, especially while reading two news stories this last week. Playing hockey, that most Canadian of sports, did not save him from experiencing racism, a less-discussed Canadian pastime.
