Former Junior Kiwis coach Tony Benson has taken over the role following a New Zealand Rugby League review of the Nines campaign. The Kiwi Ferns lost 20-4, 8-0 and 14-4 to their Australian counterparts, with planning and preparation identified as the main area of improvement.
