GettyFiat Chrysler Automobiles proposed merger of Renault on Monday has as many story angles as the combined number of brands that would be formed under the mega-alliance. In addition to Jeep and Ram, FCA has Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia and Mopar parts. FCA could benefit from electrification technology from the Renault alliance, while the Renault alliance could benefit from SUVs and truck technology. Marchionne was looking for merger partners seemingly since Fiat took over Chrysler in 2009, following the U.S. government's bailout of Chrysler. With all this FCA talk, I have to ask: Didn’t we all learn a painful enough lesson from the *last* Renault Alliance?
