Top telcos reject Reliance Jio’s demand for more interconnection points

NEW DELHI: India's top telcos have rejected Reliance Jio Infocomm's demand for more interconnection points, claiming they have already provided the new entrant with adequate capacity to meet demand from 15 million to 20 million customers. The Cellular Operators Association of India, which includes Bharti Airtel , Vodafone India and Idea Cellular , said Jio currently has some 2 million to 3 million users. However, the Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio, which is conducting trial operations and is yet to launch commercial services, has said it has about 1.5 million users. "We understand Reliance Jio presently has approximately 2 to 3 million customers using their network. It had additionally said that the PoIs provided to Jio were sufficient for traffic from 20 million users and that they wouldn't increase this until Jio launches commercial services.
