Tories, NDP demand emergency meeting over Phoenix payroll mess

Phoenix fallingCBC News has been collecting stories from civil servants, part-time employees and student workers who have been hit by the Phoenix payroll system problems. The disastrous rollout of the Phoenix payroll system that has left 80,000 federal public servants in Canada with pay problems is prompting opposition parties to demand an emergency meeting to further study the beleaguered program. "While public servants are not receiving pay, Minister [Judy] Foote and her Liberal colleagues continue to display a lack of concern for the issue." About 720 public servants — largely new hires and students — have contacted the government about not receiving pay. The Tories and the NDP have said they want to haul department officials, federal employees and union representatives in front of their committee to get to the source of the bureaucratic snafu.
