Toronto Blue Jays stifle vaunted Boston Red Sox offence, clinch home-field in AL wild-card game

BOSTON — In a 162-game season that encompassed 1,459 innings, the Blue Jays’ playoff fate was decided a thousand miles away in Atlanta. A few minutes later, the Blue Jays held off the Red Sox for a 2-1 win to claim home-field advantage for that Tuesday night game against the Orioles. The Jays had an excellent chance to draw first blood in the top of the second inning. Bogaerts followed immediately with a single to left, but Sanchez got the third out on a popup by Bradley into right field. Osuna erased Betts and Ortiz, but walked Ramirez, then gave up a single to Bogaerts before getting Bradley on a ground ball to end it.
