Toronto Mayor John Tory confirmed this morning that a hotel tax is among the revenue tools under consideration as the city seeks more sources of revenue. Tory said Premier Kathleen Wynne "hasn't promised me anything and nor have I asked for anything specifically" about a hotel tax. "A tax on hotel rooms is on the table for discussion when we discuss revenues at the end of this month," said Tory. Metro Morning host Matt Galloway asked Tory about a morning news report that says city officials have sought permission from the provincial government to impose a tax on hotel rooms. The city can't impose such a tax without a go-ahead from Queen's Park.
