The main Toronto stock index was showing a modest gain in late-morning trading, with most sectors moving higher. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 48.85 points to 15,866.85, after 90 minutes of trading. The S&P 500 index was up 7.43 points to 2,569.53 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 22.16 points to 6,627.23. The Canadian dollar was trading at 79.33 cents U.S., down from an average price of 80.14 cents U.S. on Thursday. The December crude contract was up 20 cents to $51.71 (U.S.) per barrel and the November natural gas contract was unchanged at $2.87 per mmBTU.
